   Dan, you wouldn’t scoff at spirituality in the Rasta reggae rhythm. You’d admit that Gospel works in R&B and Soul. You can probably tolerate some New Orleans funeral parade music now and then. Remember Negro Spirituals? Why do you balk at the idea of spirituality in rap? (Or did Time misquote you? Or did I misunderstand?)
   Does part of being an anarchist mean you’re obliged to abandon an artistic medium once it gains sufficient acceptance with mainstream culture and then with people who pray?

   I don’t balk at spirituality in rap music. I balk at WHACK MCs! I was Matisyahu’s biggest booster before he sold JDub out. Grew up lovin’ the likes of Bob Marley and Jeru the Damaja. Spirituality in music is fine. It just can’t be contrite, corny, and wrapped up in Jewish nationalist sh*t.

   Who writes this garbage? Since when is Tupac a good example of somebody who embodies conscious hip hop as opposed to a gangsta style? As for Subliminal’s ultra-Zionism? I feel like Loolwa Khazzoom wrote that in 2002 and every other journalist since has just accepted it.

   “What occupation? If Israel wanted to occupy something we could occupy the whole Middle East in 24 hours.”

   I’m not sure that I can accept that the more you want Israel to conquer, the more of a Zionist you are. The quotation you cite makes Subliminal a war-hawk and somebody with his head up his ass. Regardless, I still believe that most journalists just quote the same phrases that have been written over and over again so that almost every article in the non-Israeli press says basically the same thing.
