A kilt jacket? Sure it’s Scottish?

  4. Ufff… sorry, I got lost in hilaritranslation. I’ll watch it again. :)

Sarah, yeah, kilts are ways of fabric wool linen, you can find blankets and recycled jackets and so, from old shepperd kilts. They’re gorgeous and warm :)

Small Blue Thing, I know kilts. :) ‘Kilt’ is actually the name of the men’s skirt only, the cloth and its pattern are called ‘tartan’. Each clan’s got a different tartan (there are more than 600 different tartans if I’m not mistaken) just as the different keffiyeh patterns and colours denote different “affiliations”. Caledonian wool has always had a great reputation. The use of tartan elements in punk fashion likely has to do with the oppresion of Celtic minorities in the UK. (Just imagine that till 1987, kids in Wales were not allowed to learn Welsh.)

The irish ones are solid colors, and not the plaid, so they look less like catholic schoolgirls, ditto for the greeks, though theirs is more of a military thing if i’m not mistaken. At least that is what they wear outside of the tomb of the unknown soldier.

Traditionally, everybody but Germanics wore skirts, kaftans or tunics, so you find lots of pleated skirts among folklore clothing in Europe. The Roman historian Tacitus noted in his report Germania on the odd habits of the Germanics of wearing leg-clothes like hoses on each leg, held together by a string around the stomach.
